Make it Personal!

Writer's picture: AngieAngie
...an invitation into a glimpse of the most sacred space in my home is at the end... But don't skip the foundation laid at the beginning, and don't quit reading until the end. I have prayed for you, even if I do not not know you. God is quite aware of you and the private and public spaces in your heart.

The countdown is on! Every ending signifies a new beginning, and summer is no different. The season of school has landed upon us.

Parents are attempting to make sure that their students are prepared with supplies and ready for the adventure of a school year that is sure to be like no other! Pencils, binders, and everything is personalized in design and marked with a name. Backpacks are chosen to reflect the style of the student! Even shopping for new school clothes or shoes takes on a new meaning when it is time to prep for school. The wardrobe must be personal, and every attempt is made to reflect personal style, interests and age.

Let us not forget that teachers are muddling their way through a new method of instruction and classroom management, whether in person or online! The face to face or virtual classrooms are set up and reflective of the teacher’s personal style of instruction, be it teacher-centered or student-centered, and the attempts are made to provide a climate for academic achievement. Teachers have prepared their rosters and grade books have been personalized with student names.

What could we be forgetting? What is being overlooked in this season of preparation? We have met physical needs, talked through emotions, and tried to prepare our students mentally for this new journey.

But have we been as intentional with meeting spiritual needs? We can do more than we have done, and my thoughts today are geared toward exactly that.

Personal experience raising my three treasures has led me to understand the untapped power of praying Scripture over the lives of our students. Yes, I am an educator that prays over my students, but I caution against praying with more fervor over the lives of others than you do over the lives for which you are held the most accountable. Those whom He has gifted to you for a life time are worthy of your sacrificed time spent in communication with your Heavenly Father in intentional conversation on behalf of those deepest in our hearts.

Today, I humbly offer you a not-often shared glimpse into my war room prayer closet!

Literally, I have a closet in my bedroom that I completely emptied. Yes, the wardrobe had to dwindle a bit (or a lot), but the moments I have spent in this sacred space have offered more to the value of my life than time I have spent anywhere else.

When Jesus tells us to store up our treasures in heaven, he is talking about more than how we view or manage our time, money, health and talent. He is talking about the focus of our heart.

"Don’t keep hoarding for yourselves earthly treasures that can be stolen by thieves. Material wealth eventually rusts, decays, and loses its value. Instead, stockpile heavenly treasures for yourselves that cannot be stolen and will never rust, decay, or lose their value. For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure. The eyes of your spirit allow revelation-light to enter into your being. If your heart is unclouded, the lights flood in!" Matthew 16:9-21 TPT

What lasts eternally is prayer. The prayers that Howard prayed over my life, our children, our friends and even those whom supported us in the journey of MS continue to work themselves out. They have allowed his life to be more than a memory of funny or inspirational stores—of which, there are a BUNCH! Howard's moments of prayer transformed that memory into a legacy that continues to be worked out within the lives of many people.

Before I escort you into a picture tour of my war room, I want to remind you of two important truths upon which the power of intentional, specific and strategic prayer rests.

First praying Scripture is powerful because it is the Word of God. Nothing that you can say or do has the power to minimize the power of his Word. My friend, you are just not that powerful. And if you don’t take offense by that, then you can gain comfort within the perspective.

"For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts. There is not one person who can hide their thoughts from God, for nothing that we do remains a secret, and nothing created is concealed, but everything is exposed and defenseless before his eyes, to whom we must render an account." Hebrews 4:16-18 TPT

Second, the impact of prayer is related to the condition of our heart. The effective prayer stems from the heart that is saturated in thoughts and behaviors that are pleasing to God and free from the chain of offense we may have caused in the life of another.

"Confess and acknowledge how you have offended one another and then pray for one another to be instantly healed, for tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer! James 5:16 TPT

So much more could be said on these thoughts, but it is time for our picture journey into my most sacred place. Welcome to my closet of comfort, peace, revelation, forgiveness, worship, and prayer. My prayer for you is that your heart would be stirred, compelled to know completely the unconditional love of our Heavenly Father who desires more for you than insecurity, anxiety, fear, deception, and confusion.

This pictorial journey was more difficult than I imagined. I want to protect the privacy of those whom have asked me to pray and have attempted to do that with editing. I tried to do a video, but the lack of privacy for those upon the walls of this closet was not secure enough for me. So, I have instead included snapshots of my prayer closet. If you would like more information or support in praying Scripture and designing your own sanctuary of prayer, please contact me.

Here is my favorite Scripture prayer over my own life. Take a moment to respond to the Holy Spirit and seek him on your own behalf.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I ask that I be supernaturally infused with strength through my life-union with the Lord Jesus. May I stand victorious with the force of your explosive power flowing in and through me.

I ask that you would remind me to put on God’s complete set of armor provided for me, so that I will be protected as I fight against the evil strategies of the accuser!

Because of this, God, I ask that you would cover me with all the armor that God provides for my protection as I confront the slanderer, for I am destined for all things and I will rise victorious.

God, I choose to put on truth as a belt to strengthen me to stand in triumph. I choose to put on holiness as the protective armor that covers my heart. Help me to stand on my feet alert, then I will always be ready to share the blessings of peace.

In every battle, God, I will take faith as your wrap-around shield, for it is able to extinguish the blazing arrows coming at me from the Evil One! I choose to embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect my thoughts from lies. And I will take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken Word of God so that when I have done all that I can do, I will still be standing.

God, lead me to pray passionately in the Spirit, as I constantly intercede with every form of prayer at all times. I ask and pray the blessings of God upon my life.

Amen!

THIS IS NOT TO BECOME A ROUTINE, LITURGICAL RITE OF PRAYER THAT LACKS MEANING, INFLUENCE, AND POWER IN YOUR LIFE. It is not a magic set of words that will cause victory at every turn in your life.

BUT if you hold God to His Word and yourself to His standards, then HE WILL honor every prayer uttered from your heart.

If I was to pray this same prayer over my kids or someone else, the template might look like this:

God, I ask that INSERT NAME HERE, be supernaturally infused with strength through his/her life-union with the Lord Jesus. Let INSERT NAME HERE stand victorious with the force of your explosive power flowing in and through INSERT NAME HERE.

God, help INSERT NAME HERE to always put on God’s complete set of armor that you provided for him/her, so that INSERT NAME HERE, will be protected as he/she fights against the evil strategies of the accuser!

God, because of this, help INSERT NAME HERE to understand he/she must wear all the armor that God provides so he/she is protected as he/she confronts the slanderer, for INSERT NAME HERE is destined for all things and through you he/she will rise victorious.

Remind INSERT NAME HERE to put on truth as a belt to strengthen him/her to stand in triumph. May INSERT NAME HERE put on holiness as the protective armor that covers his/her heart. Help INSERT NAME HERE to stand on his/her feet alert, then he/she will always be ready to share the blessings of peace.

In every battle, let INSERT NAME HERE, take faith as a wrap-around shield, for it is able to extinguish the blazing arrows coming at him/her from the Evil One! Let INSERT NAME HERE embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect his/her thoughts from lies. And let INSERT NAME HERE take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken Word of God.

Teach INSERT NAME HERE to pray passionately in the Spirit, as he/she constantly intercedes with every form of prayer at all times.

Amen.
